It is surprising to know that Michael Fassbender before being cast as the lead never knew about the Assassin’s Creed games.  He only got to know about the nine games when he was hired by Ubisoft which develops and distributes the game. As a producer and realising the importance of the character, Michael Fassbender lobbied to get Justin Kurzel on board as the director and chose Marion Cottilard to play opposite him because he had previously worked with them on Macbeth (2015). The film will not be following the usual story line of the game, but instead will have its own screenplay written specifically for the film.

The trailer starts in a very interesting manner showing Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) in jail conversing with an agent. Later he is shown in some kind of a holdup made of glass where he gets extremely physical with armed guards who succeed in chaining him up and leading him to a lab where he is injected with something which puts him to sleep. The whole time the voice over of Allan Rikkin (Jeremy Irons) is heard saying that ‘We have traced his bloodline back five hundred years to the Assassin’s Creed.‘ Callum Lynch then wakes up to the voice of Dr. Sophia Rikkin (Marion Cotillard) who is telling him that ‘You no longer exist.‘ In a panic he is seen running in an unknown location from where there is no escape to the outer world, it is as if he has come into a completely different world the existence of which no one knows. He enquires ‘What is this place?‘, and Dr. Sophia Rikkin tells him ‘This is your second chance.’ The scientists put hand gears on Callum Lynch and put a belt on his waist in a lab where there is a big machine called the Animus. A device is attached on to the back of Callum Lynch’s neck and at the same time he is told that he is about to enter the Animus, and while he will be in it, he will see, hear and feel the memories of his ancestor who has been dead for five hundred years. Thus upon entering the Animus, he is living the life of his ancestor Aguilar, who is an assassin during the times of the Spanish Inquisition.

The trailer shows the actors doing parkour styled jumps over buildings, fighting with hand held gears, running in the ancient streets of Spain and doing dangerous acrobatic activities. The trailer looks as interesting as the games and the Assassin’s Creed fans would be dying to watch it on the big screen. The film will have its release on 21st of December 2016, and will be available in cinemas worldwide on 1st January, 2017. ASSASSIN’S CREED Trailer Review Michael Fassbender As Callum Lynch
