‘Bernie And Rebecca’, Melissa Kent’s Directorial Debut Selected For Oscar Qualifying LA Short Fest. Melissa Kent is well known in the industry as a highly respected film editor, and although the general public may not know her name, they certainly know her work. Kent’s filmography includes The Age of Adaline, The Virgin Suicides, and the upcoming American Pastoral starring Ewan McGregor, due to premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. She now lends her skills as a director to a short film, which allows us to enjoy the very first date of Bernie and Rebecca. This enthralling film recently won an Award of Excellence: Special Mention at the 2016 IndieFest Film Awards, and has now been selected at the prestigious and Oscar-qualifying LA Shorts Fest.

‘BERNIE AND REBECCA’ IS AN EYE OPENER FOR COUPLES THINKING ABOUT THEIR FUTURE TOGETHER

After a blind date, Bernie and Rebecca imagine a future life together, but it’s not the perfect marriage with angelic kids, a big house and white picket fence…

Kyle Davis (Dexter/Enlisted) stars as Bernie and Brianna Barnes (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) as Rebecca, with both of their performances nominated at theInternational Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema in Berlin. The music was composed by David Carbonara (Mad Men), cinematography is by Nicole Whitaker (Homeland) and the sound was designed by Christopher S. Aud (Mad Max: Fury Road, Neighbors). Kent produced alongside Mary Pat Bentel(Animals, Goodbye World).

 

Until now Melissa Kent has made her career as a feature film editor, most recently on Ewan McGregor’s directorial debut, American Pastoral, based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Philip Roth, starring McGregor, Jennifer Connelly and Dakota Fanning. Previous editing credits include The Vow, Four Christmases, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, Just Wright, Something New, A Raisin in the Sun, and crazy/beautiful.

 “Bernie and Rebecca” continues its successful run on the festival circuit with upcoming screenings at Hawaii Shorts Fest, Action on Film Festival, Lady Filmmakers Festival, Catalina Film Festival, Glendale International Film Festival, and the Charlotte Film Festival. It was awarded Best Romantic Comedy at the Northern Virginia International Film Festival.

“Bernie and Rebecca” has its Los Angeles premiere at LA Shorts Fest on September 7th at 1pm.
