PRESS RELEASE – 5th February 2015

THE BEAT BENEATH MY FEET IS THE ONLY UK FEATURE SELECTED IN GENERATION PROGRAMME AT 65th BERLINALE

INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE GOES HEAD TO HEAD WITH FIFTY SHADES OF GREY

Scoop Films announces that its latest feature film The Beat Beneath My Feet is the only UK feature selected for the Generation section at the 65th Berlinale – The Berlin International Film Festival, which starts today. One of the few UK films in competition at this year’s festival, The Beat Beneath My Feet will compete for a prestigious Crystal Bear.

The film will hold its International Premiere on 11th February at 17.00 at the 1000+ seater Haus der Kulturen der Welt theatre in the German capital.

On the same evening the much-hyped blockbuster Fifty Shades Of Grey also receives its International Premiere at the same festival. The difference between the two films could not be starker. Fifty Shades… is a $40m Hollywood blockbuster backed by the financial muscle of Focus Features and Universal Pictures. The Beat… is a low budget indie production set in Balham, South London. It remains to be seen which film will win the biggest plaudits from critics and audience alike.

In The Beat Beneath My Feet, the debut feature from director, John Williams, Hollywood heart-throb Luke Perry (Beverly Hills 90210) plays Max Stone, a down at heel rocker; Lisa Dillon plays over-protective mother, Mary and bright new talent Nicholas Galitzine plays a music mad teenager, Tom.

Producer Fiona Gillies said: “To be one of the few UK films at such a prestigious film festival as the Berlinale is an amazing step forward for The Beat Beneath My Feet. The film addresses many issues and experiences of today’s modern teenager and as part of the Generation 14plus competition will screen to a youthful and knowledgeable Berlin audience whom I’m sure will identify with its themes and ambition. To be screening at the same time as such a big movie as Fifty Shades Of Grey shows the diversity and challenges of operating in today’s film market and we relish the opportunity to push our film into the same spotlight as the Hollywood blockbusters.”
