5th LONDON IRANIAN FILM FESTIVAL 2014

This November returns the London Iranian Film Festival, which will showcase the best films coming from Iran. The Festival is in its 5th year, and will show 7 Feature films from 1st November to 6th November, 2014. The 5th London Iranian Film Festival 2014 will be the biggest and most exciting festival ever.

From Director Shahram Mokri comes an experimental film with an enigmatic time warp narrative. Starring Babak Karimi, Saeed Ebrahimifar, Siyavash Cheraghi Pour and Mohammad Berahmani, the film plays out as one continuous shot following the characters in a remote forest and a nearby lake. The film builds an atmosphere of tension as the film criss crosses different characters intermingling with each other leading towards a bigger picture. Fish and Cat is a masterpiece made by the emerging filmmakers in Iran.

Director Kianoush Ayari brings a hauntingly realistic film to the festival. Starring Mehdi Hashemi, Shahab Hosseini, Mehran Rajabi and Naser Hashemi, the film tells the story of a grownup son whose daughter is avoiding an arranged marriage. Something from the past still haunts the grownup son and thus the film follows a series of patriarchal violence which follows the Tehran household. This masterfully filmed drama had such an effect that it was banned for two years by the Iranian government.

A very serious romantic/political drama by Director Reza Dormishian, starring Baran Kosari, Navid Mohammadzadeh and Reza Behboudi tells the story based during the protests of the 2009 elections in Iran. Navid, a politically active university student in love with Sitareh is thrown out of the university. Trying to woo Setareh, the only obstacle he faces is her father who does not want his daughter to join a penniless man. The film shows different social circles within Tehran and the powerlessness of the new generation.

From Director Mehdi Rahmani comes a very thought provoking drama. Roya Teymurian, Afshin Hashemi, Mohammad Reza Ghafari and Anahita Afshar star in a film which tells a very destitute story of the Vaziris whose daughter is to marry. Once an influential rich family, the vaziris have turned bankrupt, thus they have to carefully hide their poor state from the suitor who has to marry the Vaziris daughter. With music by Babak Mirzakhani, Snow is Rahmani’s latest offering and was shown at the 32nd Fajr International Film Festival to critical acclaim.

A film that takes a closer look at a suffering man’s psyche, Director Omid Tootoonchi shares a film which deals with depression.  Poolad Mokhtari, Mahsa Mohammad Kazem and Zahra Behrouz Manesh star in the film which tells the story of a man, who on a friend’s advice visits a psychiatrist for his depressive state. The abuse of his past comes to haunt him once again from which he is already running away. The story is incomparable and has the power of keeping the viewers engaged.

Director Reza Ataran shows a sarcastic view of the fame and film festivals. Starring Reza Ataran, Marc Ansari and Susan Parvar, the films tells of a third-rate, stage stuck Iranian actor and playwriter who visits Cannes, France in hopes of meeting Stephen Spielberg to ask his help in becoming famous. This is Director Reza Ataran’s second feature film, which will be successful in entertaining the audience.

Director Hadi Moghadamdoost tells a beautiful story of growth. Starring Leila Hatami, Khatereh Asadi andArash Majidi, the film shows the strong spirit of a lonely and shy girl overcoming obstacles by the help of her friends and her strong belief in God. This film is a symbol of women who hold within themselves a fighting spirit.
