Why Parasite Actor Lee Sun-Kyun Took His Own Life?

The Oscar winning film ‘Parasite’ actor hailing from South Korea has died from an apparent suicide at the age of 48. Why Parasite Actor Lee Sun-Kyun Took His Own Life?

Lee Sun-Kyun was being investigated for his drug use which he completely denied. A high end bar hostess accused Lee of taking Ketamine at her home. When the news became public, Lee was dropped from major projects which included a mystery thriller TV show ‘No Way Out’ that had already started shooting.

Lee’s three appearances at the police stations were highly publicised. His final session which lasted 19 hours was on December 23rd after which the actor’s lawyer asked that he be questioned in private owing to his ‘burden’ of spotlight.

Lee insisted that he had not knowingly taken the illegal drugs and he had also passed the toxicology tests. He was also demanding a lie detector test at the time of his passing to know if he or the high end bar hostess was telling the truth. The Korea Herald reported that Lee also filed a complaint against the hostess claiming that she had blackmailed him and extorted $270,000 from him.

Lee Sun-Kyun admitted that he met the hostess four times and inhaled a powder through the nose with a straw, believing that it was crushed sleeping pills. But the hostess claimed that it was ketamine. Lee was also accused of using marijuana and psychedelics at different occasions.

Lee Sun-Kyun’s wife Jeon Hye-jin who is herself an actress and former Miss Korea contestant found a suicide note which she immediately notified to the police. Upon search, the late actor’s lifeless body was found in a Seoul car park.
