TERRACOTTA FAR EAST FILM FESTIVAL 2014

TFEFF14

The first Terracotta Far East Film Festival started in 2009, with films screened in the heart of China Town in the cinema called The Prince Charles Cinema. Ever since then this festival has gained popularity with films from countries like Philippines, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and other far east Asian countries. It is the best platform for showcasing the best films from Far East Asia.

I came across the Far East Film Festival by chance in 2013, and as I had never attended any Film Festivals in my life I thought why not try this one. After going through the list of the movies being screened, and the days and time available for me to go and watch a film, I chose the Taiwanese film ‘When a Wolf Falls in Love with a Sheep’.

This was my first ever Taiwanese film that I watched on the big screen, and I loved it. Very well Directed by Hou Chi-jan, and outstanding performances by KO Chen Tung and CHIEN Man Shu made this film a lively, full of love and tears film. I would confess that it made me cry a bit too. The cinematography of this film is one of the best that I have seen. It’s the best recommendation that I can give. This film was also in the Top 5 best films of the Terracotta Far East Film Festival 2013.

There were a few other films that I wanted to watch which included three Korean films ‘Young Gun in the Time’, ‘The Berlin File’ and ‘A Werewolf Boy’; a Chinese Film ‘Drug War’ and a Japanese film ‘The Story of Yonosuke’. Due to limited availability of time and excess of work, I could only watch one film, but I’m not sad and am quite excited because there is more to come this year in 2014.

The 6th Terracotta Far East Film Festival 2014, is set for a come back later this year starting on 23rd May till 1st June. This time this festival will be held at two different venues: London’s Institute of Contemporary arts, and The Prince Charles Cinema, in the heart of China Town.

In the London Institute of Contemporary Arts, the Terracotta Far East Film Festival 2014 will have a “Spotlight on” the Philippines Cinema, films and the talent which is often overlooked, from the 23rd of May till the 28th, which will then shift into The Prince Charles Cinema, where the latest Far East Asian films will be screened.

Keep a look out for this space, as I will write more about The Terracotta Far East Film Festival 2014, and hopefully I would get to watch more than one film this time, and come and tell how the films and the entire festival was.
