A CURE FOR WELLNESS Trailer Review A Unique Psychological Thriller

A CURE FOR WELLNESS Trailer Review A Unique Psychological Thriller is entirely shot in a 19th century Castle Hohenzollern in a little town called Hechingen in municpality of Bisingen, Germany. The castle remained closed for the general public from July 13th to 24th back in 2015 during the filming. Some parts have also been shot in Saxony-Anhalt and Zehla-Mehlis, Germany. It has been directed by Gore Verbinski who is well known for directing Johny Depp in three of the Pirates Of The Caribbean films The Curse Of The Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man’s Chest (2006), At World’s End (2007); and The Lone Ranger (2013). A Cure For Wellness is the director’s latest venture after The Lone Ranger.

The trailer itself doesn’t show much about the story line of the movie, but as the plot says that it revolves around a young executive who is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO who is at a very idyllic but very mysterious wellness centre. There he finds out that the spa is more than a place for cure and carries in itself a very mysterious ambience because of which no one wants to leave the place. The choosing of the Castle Hohenzollern and the locations within it chosen for shooting add the eeriness to the movie, including the characters in it.

The trailer starts off with Mr. Lockhart (Dane DeHaan) floating on the water wearing an oxygen tube, in what seems to be a huge water chamber  with a huge glass through which the doctors can monitor him. He is asked ‘Are you ready Mr. Lockhart?‘, to which he turns his head and nods in affirmative. The doctor then says,’Then let’s begin!‘. Thus the trailer then shows a montage with Mr. Lockhart submerged into the water, a train turning right towards a dark tunnel in the mountains, a lonely castle on top of a mountain, a group of men and women exercising with big air balls raised above their heads, bodies in steel chambers with heads uncovered, a man looking through the glass at people swimming in a pool and a bath tub with someone’s hand visible. All these scenes bring in the mysteriousness of the spa, occupying the viewers and wanted them to know more about it. The only other character shown in the trailer is of Hannah (Mia Goth), who is herself a patient in the facility.  The part in the trailer that I think gives away the story is the one in which Mr. Lockhart turns the light switch on, bringing into vision a number of vertical water chambers with bodies of men floating in it upright. The trailer itself is full of mystery and is well presented. For a psychological thriller, this film is a must see based on the trailer.

The film’s initial release will be on 17th February, 2017, but in the United Kingdom it is planned to release on 24th March, 2017. A CURE FOR WELLNESS Trailer Review A Unique Psychological Thriller
